Cleon Peterson
We Become What We Are 2
Acrylic and spray paint on four panels
Dimensions: 28 x 28 in (71.1 x 71.1 cm)
In "We Become What We Are 2", Cleon Peterson continues his exploration of power struggles and dynamics of domination. Executed in stark black and red, the composition unveils a brutal, uncompromising universe, true to the artist’s radical aesthetic.
Spread across four panels, five male figures appear in aggressive and dominant poses, confronting four female figures relegated to positions of submission. The scene brims with unsettling details: a body lying on the ground, its face splattered with blood before a glass door; a gun abandoned at its side; traces of drugs on a table; bullet casings scattered on the floor; overturned bottles and broken glasses; and fragments of discarded clothing. These elements amplify the atmosphere of chaos, violence, and excess.
Unframed, the work strikes with the raw immediacy of its color blocks and the clarity of its draftsmanship. With chilling intensity, Peterson exposes the mechanisms of power, violence, and corruption that pervade contemporary society.
