Resin Sculpture

Historically, resin is one of the newest materials in sculpture. Unlike materials such as bronze, terracotta, wood or stone, resin only appeared at the beginning of the 20th century.

This technique, which can be considered in the era of time, is increasingly popular with artists and collectors alike. This is why at Art Shortlist we have chosen to build a collection of resin sculptures that would make some bronzes and even some marbles pale in comparison!

Resin has many advantages: first of all, it is a rather light material, if you compare it to solid wood or bronze. Now, let's talk about the personalities who have popularized and spread this artistic technique that has become essential. The sculptor Duane Hanson has participated in this development of resin in sculpture, it is attached to Pop Art and Hyperrealism. Resin allowed him to improve the details and the features of his sculpted creations, in fact, the artist gained in precision, and resin is not foreign to this gain in realism. 

How not to mention the famous French artist Niki de Saint Phalle, who used polyester resin in particular for her monumental sculptures representing women: the Nanas.

Today, brilliant artists continue to use this technique, including Richard Orlinski and Mark Whalen, both represented on Art Shortlist. This technique allows them to produce colorful and very realistic works. Let's also mention the American artist Kaws, who creates small, medium and large resin characters. His creations are inspired by popular culture and the world today and are known worldwide. Using resin, Kaws blurs the lines between commercial and fine art.
