Bio

Bordalo II (Artur Bordalo), born in Lisbon in 1987, is an artist known for his works that transform plastic waste into art. The name Bordalo II is a tribute to his grandfather, a renowned painter, to whom he added "segundo" to honor this artistic legacy passed down through generations.

Lisbon, his hometown, is one of the most affected cities by plastic pollution, with its residents using an average of 460 plastic bags per year, one of the highest rates in Europe. This environmental context is at the heart of Bordalo II’s inspiration.

Since 2013, the artist has combined his education in Fine Arts with his experience in street art to criticize the overconsumption and inefficient management of plastic waste. His monumental works, often created from recycled materials, repurpose plastic waste to create striking sculptures of animals, faces, and other forms of life, highlighting humanity’s destructive impact on the planet.

Bordalo II’s ecological commitment goes beyond his creations: each work becomes a powerful message about the importance of reusing materials and collective awareness of the environmental crisis. His installations, visible on the streets around the world, create a direct interaction between art and society, encouraging viewers to reflect on sustainability and the management of natural resources.
