New and old collide in Christian Rex van Minnen’s absurd reinterpretations of traditional still-life painting. Parallax—van Minnen’s first printed publication in more than 10 years and his first timed edition—is based on an original oil on linen painting, in which he employs Venetian painting techniques that predate him by several centuries.
The title of the work refers to the compositional logic underlying its assemblage of foliage, gummy candies, and embryos.
