Description

Michael Kagan, A7L Helmet – Navy (2022)

This sculpture by Michael Kagan depicts the iconic A7L space helmet, the model worn by NASA astronauts during the Apollo missions when humanity first set foot on the Moon. With this work, the American artist continues his fascination with space exploration, contemporary heroism, and the mythic figures of our time.

Cast in bronze, the sculpture precisely captures the structure of the original helmet while retaining Kagan’s distinctive visual language: a surface constructed from fragmented geometric forms that evoke the deconstruction of imagery and visual memory. The dark, reflective visor reinforces the mysterious aura of the astronaut, an emblematic figure of space exploration and the collective imagination.

The Navy version gives the piece a strong and contemporary sculptural presence. The depth of the blue enhances the helmet’s volumes and emphasizes the futuristic dimension of the work.

In recent years, Michael Kagan has established himself as one of the most notable contemporary artists exploring themes of space and human exploration. His works are now held in numerous private and institutional collections and are regularly exhibited in international galleries.

This sculpture is therefore a particularly sought-after piece for collectors interested in contemporary art, space exploration, and the iconography of the Apollo missions.
