Salvador Dalí (1904–1989)
The Beloved feeds among the lilies, 1971
Original print – The Song of Songs
Created in 1971, this print by Salvador Dalí belongs to the suite devoted to the Song of Songs, a great love poem from the biblical tradition. In "The Beloved feeds among the lilies", Dalí translates this text into a vision that is both sensual and spiritual: an elongated female figure stands out among flowers, grasses and flowing lines, as if carried by a luminous breath.
Here, the artist combines etching with stencil colouring (pochoir) on wove paper.
The printmaking process gives the drawing its finesse — delicate lines, light hatching, precise contours — while the pochoir technique allows colour to be applied with softness: pale greens, subtle pinks and golden touches that evoke the garden, the light, and the sacred dimension of the text. The result is an airy, elegant composition, characteristic of Dalí’s prints from this period.
Listed in the catalogue raisonné of Dalí’s prints (Michler–Löpsinger 477), this sheet is part of a limited edition of 250 impressions. The example presented here is signed in pencil by Salvador Dalí lower right, and numbered in pencil lower left "104/250".
Offered in very good condition, the work is already framed (approx. 50 × 34 cm framed) and ready to hang. The frame enhances the composition with a wide, light-coloured mat that allows the image to breathe.
For a collector, this print brings together several important qualities: an original work by Salvador Dalí, clearly referenced in the catalogue raisonné, belonging to a major suite illustrating a foundational text, signed and numbered in a limited edition, and already presented in a carefully chosen frame. A poetic and refined piece — ideal for enriching a collection of modern prints or a focused Dalí ensemble.
