“À la gloire de nos excès” (“In Praise of Our Excesses”) was born from an act of reclamation: hundreds of bottle caps, patiently collected over time, then painted and assembled into a dense, vibrant mosaic.

What was once ordinary waste, a residue of consumption destined to be forgotten, becomes the raw material for a profusion of colour. Each of these bottle caps represents a moment of life, of joy.

The accumulation itself lies at the heart of the work’s meaning: piling up, keeping, throwing nothing away, until excess itself becomes creation. The title fully embraces this sense of abundance—not as a flaw to be corrected, but as an energy to be celebrated. Taken individually, each bottle cap is insignificant; together, they form a richly textured, luminous surface.

The Baroque frame elevates this act of reclamation, transforming what should have ended up in the bin into something precious. This contrast between the nobility of the frame and the modest nature of the material calls into question our traditional hierarchies of value.

“À la gloire de nos excès” thus celebrates abundance, overflow and accumulation—not as a vice, but as a source of creative potential.
