Description

Jisbar (born 1989)
Happy Astro Boy, circa 2017

Limited edition (copy 29/250)
Reproduction of an original painting on canvas
60 × 50 cm

An emblematic work from Jisbar’s pop and urban universe, Happy Astro Boy energetically reinterprets the iconic character Astro Boy through the artist’s distinctive visual language. Set against a vibrant background of vivid colours, gestural splashes, and graffiti-inspired references, the manga figure stands out powerfully within a resolutely contemporary composition.

Faithful to Jisbar’s signature aesthetic, the work brings together popular culture, urban art, and neo-pop influences in a dialogue between iconic references and spontaneous expression. The layering of symbols, colours, and inscriptions creates a particularly dynamic visual tension, characteristic of the artist’s practice.

This piece is a numbered limited edition, 29/250, produced after an original painting, in partnership with Eyefood Factory.

Bio

Jean-Baptiste Launay aka Jisbar is a French pop-street artist born in 1989. He now divides his time between Paris and Lisbon.

Jisbar has made a name for himself worldwide by reinterpreting masterpieces of art history with a personal style influenced by pop and street art. This blend of influences has created an inspiring universe. Each of Jisbar's works goes beyond the idea of a simple remake or reproduction, as it is enriched by elements such as words, slogans, numbers and codes. His aesthetic challenges anyone who takes the time to look at it.

From San Francisco to the Gold Coast, via Taipei to Venice, Paris and London, Jisbar's work travels well and is exhibited in numerous art galleries across the globe. You can also find his creations in renowned museums such as the Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi or the Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration in Paris. At the Paris museum, Jisbar presented his work Love is the New Fame to the then French President François Hollande.

Jisbar is also known for paying tribute to the great Leonardo da Vinci on the 500th anniversary of his death. Jisbar also sent a new version of his reinterpreted Mona Lisa into space. The painting hovered 33.4 km above the Earth for over an hour and a half. On this occasion, he became the first artist to achieve this feat. His technical feat was widely acclaimed by the international media.

Jisbar has collaborated with renowned brands such as BMW, Armani, LG, IKKS and even MotoGP world champion Fabio Quartararo.
