Description

Beautiful acrylic on canvas signed Antoine Gamard. The canvas measures 79.5 x 100 cm. It is sold rolled in a protective tube to limit shipping costs.

Between urban writing and academicism, Antoine Gamard has fun highlighting the links he sees between twentieth-century energy and the aesthetics of graffiti:
"For me, graffiti is an intrinsic component of art; it represents not only the spoken word, but also the reality of the world. It expresses man's condition on the margins...
It's essential to my work, in that it expresses our utopias, our suffering, our ideas... It's the violent expression of inner states, as much a salvation and liberator as a warning bell.
Using graffiti as a backdrop seemed obvious to me."

Bio

Antoine Gamard was born in Paris in 1977. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he developed his ideas based on the superimposition of writing and the interweaving of motifs. By juxtaposing these two ideas, under the guidance of painter Claude Viallat, he came to see white as a vector of pure invention that only the imagination can see.

His canvases often feature representatives of the animal kingdom, set like a surrealist collage against an urban backdrop of graffiti. It's a dreamlike world he depicts, in which wonder at Creation clashes with our own contemporaneity. Over time, his paintings and stories have become more complex. The aesthetic is suspended, densified and tangible, whether it's animals, cosmonauts, graffiti or the Sacred.
