Rokkaku aspires to the freedom of childhood. When I paint, I try to get in touch with what I felt as a child," she explains. This allows her to break free from the rules. Imagination takes precedence over technique. She is also inspired by Japanese kawaii culture, which translates directly as "cute", but which now encompasses a very broad cultural aesthetic, from Hello Kitty to streetwear. Likewise, Rokkaku indulges in all things cute as a form of escapism. Wild and exuberant, his work embodies the untamed radiance of youth.
Rokkaku will work with printmakers to translate his painting into a hybrid print combining UV-cured ink and a glossy silkscreen varnish. Once finalized, the edition will be printed, stamped and shipped to collectors worldwide. This is the first of Rokkaku's prints to be authenticated by a stamp. Previously, his signature only appeared on original works.
