Bio

Mark Whalen is an Australian artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. In his sculptures and paintings, Mark Whalen expresses situations that can be described as universal. He uses familiar shapes, figures and objects to delineate and compartmentalize his characters. His figures are playfully composed and catch the eye at first glance.

Mark Whalen establishes relationships between human forms, colours and chrome elements. The stories the artist tells have a direct connection to life: a stack of enigmas, disturbances and entertaining questions.

The Australian artist has been exhibiting in museums and galleries internationally since 2006, including at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne in 2018, the RMIT School of Art in Melbourne in 2013, the National Touring Exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia in 2010-2011, the Penrith Regional Gallery in Australia in 2010 and the MACRO in Rome in 2009.
