In 2004, British street artist Banksy printed the equivalent of one million pounds in "Di-Faced Tenner" ten pound bills. Inspired by a "degraded" ten-pound bill, Banksy's Di-Faced Tenner replaces the image of Queen Elizabeth II with that of the late Lady Diana, issued for the occasion by the "Banksy of England". Charles Darwin can be found on the reverse side, the bill also proclaims, "Trust no one."
Banksy rained the bills down on crowds of people at Notting Hill and Reading festivals and spilled the contents of a briefcase full of bills at Liverpool tube station in London, all during rush hour. The British Museum acquired a Di-Faced Tenner ticket in 2019, where it joined the coin and metal collection and represented the first-ever acquisition of an original Banksy creation by this major English museum.
