Lithography: traditionally on stone but not only
Originally, lithographs were produced on soft limestone, often sourced from the Solnhofen quarries in Bavaria.
However, from the 20th century onward, many artists and print ateliers also began working with: zinc plates, aluminum plates and even polymer-based matrices.
What truly defines a lithograph is not the material, but the process: the artist draws directly on the surface using a greasy crayon or ink, and the image is printed manually, sheet by sheet.
