Born in 1961 in Saint-Céré, France, Marc Petit began sculpting at the age of 14. He was mentored by René Fournier and Jean Lorquin, former students of the Paris Beaux-Arts. At 24, he held his first solo exhibition. Awarded the Fondation de France grant in 1989, he financed his first bronze sculptures. His work was displayed at the Musée Jean Jaurès in Castres in 1993.

In 2006, a double exhibition was dedicated to him in Cahors and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. The Musée Marc Petit opened in Ajaccio in 2008. In 2011, a retrospective was held at the Centre d'Art Contemporain of the Abbaye d’Auberive. In 2014, L'Ange du Lazaret was inaugurated in Cahors, and in 2017, the Espace Marc Petit opened in Mimizan.

Marc Petit regularly exhibits across Europe and at international art fairs, cementing his place in contemporary art.
