Stepping out of his comfort zone

Despite his global success as a film actor, Brad Pitt is not satisfied and even confided to the New York Times three years ago: "When you feel you've mastered something, it means it's time to move on to another adventure...".

Fascinated by contemporary art, the American star already has an art collection estimated at 25 million dollars. His collection would be composed of works by Richard Serra, Ed Ruscha and the inevitable Banksy.

His love for art has led Brad Pitt to turn to the practice of sculpture. This is how he decided to publicly present nine of his creations at the Sara Hildén Art Museum located in Tampere, Finland.

He was invited by the British artist Thomas Houseago

By presenting this set of unpublished sculptures, Brad Pitt responded to the invitation of his artist friend, Thomas Houseago. The latter is mainly known for his monumental sculptures made of organic materials.

It should be known that Thomas Houseago is the favorite sculptor of the actor and that over the years, he even became his mentor.

Since his divorce with Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt would have devoted most of his free time to sculpture with Thomas Houseago as artistic master.

Another distinguished guest at this exhibition, the Australian rocker Nick Cave who exhibits some ceramics.

An introspection?

As part of this group exhibition entitled Thomas Houseago - WE with Nick Cave & Brad Pitt, Brad Pitt presents for example a large plaster bas-relief representing a shooting. A sort of contemporary reinterpretation of ancient bas-reliefs?

"For Nick and I, it's a new world and a first performance. It just feels good" Brad Pitt told Finnish television station Yle. "For me, it's about introspection. It's about knowing where I went wrong in my relationships, where I went wrong..." explained Brad Pitt.

This exhibition is to be discovered at the Sara Hildén Art Museum until January 15, 2023.

Brad Pitt joins the closed circle of great actors turned artists alongside Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp or Pierce Brosnan.
