Stélio Scamanga
Bio
Stélio Scamanga is a painter based in France, he has travelled extensively throughout his career and his works have been presented in solo exhibitions around the world. Born in 1934 into a Greek family living in Syria, he was initially inspired by Byzantine icons.
Later, the artist evolved in his practice, he turned to abstraction, painting mostly with knives, a way he believes to bring more texture and relief to his paintings.
Trained as an architect, he also studied drawing and painting. In 1959, during an architectural internship in Paris, he met Le Corbusier. His career as an architect led him to open architectural offices in Switzerland and Saudi Arabia.
The artist has exhibited in Lebanon, Cyprus, France, Germany, the United States, Switzerland, Sweden, Greece, Belgium and Japan.
