Engels Koslov
Bio
Engels Koslov (1926-2007) was a Russian painter, one of the great representatives of the St. Petersburg-Leningrad school. The artist trained at the Yaroslav Art College, he started exhibiting from 1956.
In 1978 Engels Kozlov received the honorary title of Honorary Artist of the RSFSR, he also received the title of People's Artist of the Komi Republic in 1982. In 1987, he was elected the best people's artist of the Russian Federation.
Engels Kozlov died on 20 November 2007 in St. Petersburg at the age of eighty-one. His paintings can be found in the Russian National Museum, art museums and private collections in Russia, Japan, USA, Germany, England and France.
This artist has painted portraits, genre scenes, landscapes and still lifes. His painting is based on the contrasts between light and shadow. The colour is saturated, with a predominance of blue-green and yellow-brown tones.
Engels Kozlov's solo exhibitions have been held in Leningrad (1976), Moscow (1987), Siktivkar (2006).
